Compute scalar metrics from catchment geometries.

Purpose#

Expose lightweight, deterministic geographic indicators used by orchestration and diagnostics.

Only catchment area (km2) is exposed here, with compatibility logic that preserves authored shapefile area metadata when an AREA attribute exists.
